About Better Lives Rhode Island
Since 1974, Better Lives Rhode Island has worked side by side with individuals and families in Providence and beyond—offering food, hope, and a path forward. As a nonprofit rooted in downtown Providence, we support neighbors across Elmwood, West End, Mount Pleasant, Silver Lake, and South Providence with practical, compassionate care. Whether it’s groceries from our Providence food pantry, a hot Friday meal, or help navigating homelessness, we are here to make life better—together.

Formerly known as PICA and the Providence In-town Churches Association, our work began in faith-based service and has grown into a trusted, community-wide resource. From hunger to housing, we provide direct help for today and advocacy for a more just tomorrow.

Helping People Better Their Own Lives in RI
We help people better their own lives by offering stability, justice, and hope—through advocacy and direct service.
At Better Lives Rhode Island, our mission is to meet immediate needs like hunger and housing while supporting long-term change. We believe every person deserves access to healthy food, safe shelter, and the opportunity to move forward with dignity.

From food banks in Rhode Island to homeless outreach in downtown Providence, we stand beside our neighbors with no judgment and no red tape.

We serve individuals and families throughout Providence County, from College Hill to Cranston Street, especially in areas where food insecurity and housing instability are most severe.
Thanks to your support:

- We serve hot meals to 500+ individuals and families at our Friday Community Meal each month—no questions asked.
- Our RI homeless outreach team and Day Center serve 60+ unsheltered or housing-insecure individuals monthly with first aid, case management, and housing support.
- Altogether, we assist over 30,000 Rhode Islanders every year.
